DIY Beer Margarita

Island Party Basket

That’s right, beer margarita! Now there’s nothing wrong with a traditional margarita, but for the beer lovers in your party you may want to break out this fun twist on their favorite drink. Like traditional margaritas, this is a drink best made in batches!

Ingredients:

Frozen Limeade Concentrate - Pick your favorite here! If you want to add a fun twist, you can get a limeade that has notes of other fruits in it.

Tequila - Because of the beer, you can really get away with a tequila that has a bit of a bite here. Clear or young tequilas will work well. But if you want something more complex, break out the yellow tequila.

Beer - Not all beers are created equal. You’ll want to stay away from anything super dark like Guinness. A light lager is the real sweet spot here. Personal favorites for the team here at DrinkableGifts are Corona or Stella. Each beer has a clear and crisp flavor. But you can substitute what you have on hand.

Lime - This is for an optional garnish, but it can really make or break the feel of the drink. It also lets your guests increase the tartness as desired.

Salt - Also for garnish, but really rimming the glasses is part of the fun here.

Lemon-Lime Soda - This is 100% optional. But if you don’t like your margaritas frozen, this is a fun addition.

Let’s Make that Pitcher!

This is such a quick and easy drink to mix up that it’s sure to be a party favorite. If you want it frozen, or not, the ingredients are the same, but the steps are a little different. You can serve this in a traditional margarita glass, or try a mason jar mug for something more robust.

  • 12 oz. Frozen Limeade Concentrate (thawed if you don’t want a frozen drink)
  • 12 oz. Tequila
  • 12 oz. Beer
  • Lime cut into wedges
  • Salt to rim the glasses
  • Lemon-Lime Soda - Optional

For each drink, use a wedge of lime to wet your glasses, and roll the rims in salt.

Make it Frozen

A real quick way to cool down, put your limeade, tequila, and beer in a blender with ice and blend until slushie. If you need to make this in advance you can blend everything but the beer and keep it in the freezer in a sealed bag or container. Take it out and blend again with the beer when ready. Poor into your cup and garnish with lime.

Cold but not quite frozen

If you don’t like the drink frozen, no worries! This drink goes down smooth without a run through the blender. You can skip the blender and mix the beer, tequila, and thawed limeade in a pitcher, then pour into a salt-rimmed glass. Make sure your tequila and beer are cold before mixing, or serve over ice. Since this isn’t blended with ice, it may taste a bit stronger, so add a little of the lemon-lime soda to taste to cut it and add some extra fizz.
